Product Details

Spectacular 1967 Pierre Cardin museum quality documented carwash dress in a rich fully-lined orange wool-crepe. In 1951 Cardin opened his own couture house and by 1957, he started a ready-to-wear line; a bold move for a French couturier at the time. The look most associated with Cardin is the "Space Age" collections of the 1960's which made some of the most futuristic clothing of the era. This stunning avant garde creation is a perfect example of his genius. The construction of this garment is amazing; heavy-weight fringed tendrils secured at the hemline to create the birdcage movement. Talk about fantastic movement! This is one of the hardest Cardin dresses to find and in the most coveted color. Examples of this dress are in permanent collections at such museums as The Metropolitan and Fine Arts of Boston. A beautiful piece of wearable couture history. "The clothing I prefer are those I invent for a life that doesn't yet exist- the world of tomorrow!" Pierre Cardin
